The Layers of Liddle

Aloha, I'm Jessica Marie Liddle -
- writer, community-builder, and lover of stories that connect us to place, spirit, and each other.
I live on the island of Kaua‘i, where much of my writing finds its roots. My fiction explores elemental societies, ecological mystery, and the emotional landscapes we navigate in our search for belonging. I’m currently working on a novel that blends mythic world-building with coming-of-age themes, ancestral threads, and a valley alive with sentience and memory.
Before anything else, I am a storyteller.
I write to make sense of the world, to honor what feels sacred, and to offer readers a moment of recognition or wonder — the kind that lingers after the last page.

What Shapes
My Writing
My writing is deeply influenced by:
-
the winds, waters, and wild edges of Kaua‘i
-
elemental cosmologies
-
land-based cultures and the intelligence of place
-
themes of lineage, grief, and transformation
-
the belief that stories can restore us to ourselves
I’m drawn to characters on the cusp of becoming — those who stand between worlds, between childhood and adulthood, between what they’ve inherited and what they are called to create.
Life Beyond the Page
My creative life is multi-layered. Alongside writing, I:
run Ocean Mentorship LLC, offering ocean-based experiences and somatic guidance rooted in nature connection
2023-present
organize Ecstatic Dance Kaua‘i, weekly gatherings dedicated to movement, community, and healing
2022-present
COVID times
create visual art and embodiment-based workshops that explore creativity, connection, and the sacred feminine
I also hold a BA in Spanish Language & Culture and a Master’s in Foreign Language Education, both of which shaped my love for communication, storytelling across cultures, and the way meaning shifts between languages, landscapes, and worlds. This background continues to inform my writing — especially my fascination with how people express identity, lineage, and emotion through story.
